Trying to install Express to Debian 'testing'. Install went fine. But FireFox browser will not let me connect to 8080 via http://localhost:8080/apex. I get a pop-up "Connection refused.... 8080". I do have Apache2 installed but that just looks at 80 so there should be no conflict. I can get :631 for cups without an issue.
Maybe the following will help:

=============
I try: sqlplus system/oracle and it askes for name and password but nothing I put in seems to work.
I've tried to purge and reinstall but nothing works. I can get to sqlplus via the KDE menu but that does not give me any admin priviledges. I've set the environment vars correctly, but had to do them indivudally from the script as for some reason the script did not work... but no error message.
Obvioulsy the 'listener' that is installed is not hearing 8080... or it is blocked somehow. I'm not running a software firewall but do have a router. Yet since XE is on only one machine there should be no problem getting to it via the browser. I've tried to stop Apache2 and that did nothing. As I say, I can't log into sqlplus... and don't know why. I've read and posted to:
372443
but they sent me here.
My guess is that a lot more work went into making this XE thing work with Windows and not Linux.
I'm an experienced Linux guy and let me tell you that if Oracle wants this Express thing to fly, they need to make this install 'slam dunk' or we just won't bother and will stick with MySQL. I really want to give Oracle a look-see and maybe replace MySQL with Oracle on our Jaya123 web service (see below if interested) ... but I'm not sure where to turn for help and I'm about ready to give up the ghost. Any assistance is appreciated.
Thanks,
Al
