I was thinking and just havent seen any documentation to direct me yet but I wanted to find out if I could have my network guys set up a server for me that would house only the RMAN Catalog database for me to use for backups of databases that reside on separate servers. So far, in all documentation I have laid my hands on, RMAN catalog usually is installed on the same machine as target database. I know this might make you cringe a bit given the way backups are stored in the catalog database but I think it would make life easier if one could have one catalog database to handle backups of several target databases at a time. Not sure if it is currently being implemented or even plausible but any insight will be welcome.
