Calling function within another function

I am trying to call a function inside of another function that is in the same package and I am having some issues on invalid identifier.

I am unsure of how to do this. I need to get the bef_ded_tot from  bef_tax_ded and use this in a calculation in sal_mns_btd.  
Can someone help me out?
