Calculate Week Number from Date column

Hello friends,

I tried to find solution for calculating Week Nos and the closest I got to was this one -
select to_char(to_date('29.12.2009','dd.mm.yyyy'),'WW') from dual;

Can somebody pls help me with the code to calculate Week Numbers from a Date_Column ??
