Budget vs Actual by GL Segment in Financial Analytics

I am currently working with Financial Analytics in 7.9.5.1/7.9.6. I am finding that the Financial Analytics does not have a subject area that will let you easily analyse Budget vs Actuals by GL Segment for any range of gl accounts, ie P&L or Balance Sheet.
The "Financials - GL Budget and Expenses" subject area seems to have this, but its only for expenses, and analysis is restricted because the measures use the Group Account setup of OBIA.
I am looking to create a custom subject area to do this, does any one have any similar problem to this, and ideas how to address it?.
At this stage, I will be looking to copy Financials - GL Budget and Expenses and modify it to allow reporting over all GL Accounts.
