Browsers "download" my JNLP instead of automatically executing

Hello,

When I create a hyperlink to a JNLP file located on my webspace, some browers (Safari, Firefox) prompt to 'download' the JNLP instead of executing/opening the file. Is this the correct behaviour or can I instruct the browsers to 'open' somehow?
