browser for solaris 10 sparc
895121Oct 18 2011 — edited Oct 18 2011We have been using the firefox browsers in our Solaris sunray desktop environment for a while now. For the last few years performance while using the firefox browsers has fallen off considerably. The problems are most obvious when either flash or java enabled sites are gone to. The browser usually becomes unresponsive for a few minutes...and when it returns is usually very sluggish. The most problematic sites are yahoomail, oracle MOS, hotmail, and content heavy sites like espn or fox.
The sunray server is a T5140 with 96GB of ram, and runs with a load usually below 2, and the sunray clients are sunRay 3's using firefox 6 in the java desktop. The server only has the global zone.
Are there known issues with Solaris 10 sparc systems using firefox and flash/java, or is there a different browser that is recommended that will perform better? Should we be seeing better performance from this type of server? The same sites on the same network perform much better on a 5 yr old Windows PC desktop or a 4 yr old Imac. They were used to get a baseline of what the minimum network performance would be.
Thanks,
