baskar.lJun 13 2011 — edited Jun 13 2011
Hi,

DB version is 10.2.0.4

Os version is Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 5)

Listener went down
$ sqlplus system/xxxx@XXXXX

SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production on Mon Jun 13 21:20:28 2011

Copyright (c) 1982, 2007, Oracle. All Rights Reserved.

ERROR:
ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
and in log it shows
 TNS-12547: TNS:lost contact
  TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
   TNS-00517: Lost contact
    Linux IA64 Error: 32: Broken pipe
Googled and saw couple of links http://tamimdba.wordpress.com/category/how-to/error-solving/listener-broken-pipe-error/
70702

Which says if file size exceeds 2gb limit the error will occur. But my file size was 106m
$ du -h XXXXX.log
106M    XXXXX.log
Switched the listener log and the listener came up. Couldnt get any file size limit set
$ ulimit -a
core file size (blocks, -c) 0
data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited
file size               (blocks, -f) unlimited
pending signals                 (-i) 1024
max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 128
max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited
open files                      (-n) 4096

virtual memory          (kbytes, -v) unlimited
file locks                      (-x) unlimited
Why does this error occur??
