BPM Process Instance Id

Guys,
I'm expecting BPM process instance id to be in progressive sequence.. But it is not.

I created an instance at 10 am , id is 120074
Then i created an instance at 11 am on the same day, id is 110089.

Is this possible? Do anyone knows how it works?
