booting Sun Fire V100 from cdrom

807557May 21 2008 — edited Jan 6 2010
I'm working with two Sun Fire V100 servers and although the first-level diagnostics pass, I cannot get either of them to boot.

When I run a probe-ide-all this is what I get:
/pci@1f,0/ide@d
Device 0 ( Primary Master )
ATA Model: Maxtor 6E040L0
Device 1 ( Primary Slave )
Not Present
Device 2 ( Secondary Master )
Not Present
Device 3 ( Secondary Slave )
Not Present

so they are not recognizing the 2nd hard disk or the cdrom drive. It is exactly the same on both systems.

When I try to boot I get:
ok boot cdrom
Boot device: /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@3,0:f File and args:
Can't open boot device

ok boot disk0:a
Boot device: /pci@1f,0/ide@d/disk@0,0:a File and args:
Unrecognized magic number in media label
Can't open disk label package
Can't open boot device

I read somewhere in another post on this forum that in order to boot from cdrom, some jumpers need to change. Is this right?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
