Block change tracking

Never heard about block change tracking before.

I read about it and just it just says it track block changes and write it to a file.

What is the purpose of tracking it?

I am curious because I see an RMAN recovery documentation, which has a pre-requisite step to disable block change tracking.

What is the purpose of disabling block change tracking during RMAN restore?

Please help...
