BIGFILE Undo Tablespace

718168Sep 23 2010 — edited Sep 28 2010
All,

We are using small size tablespaces to manage our UNDO, however since we need to keep adding a lot of datafiles to the UNDO we plan to move
to a bigfile tablespace and just have one of it and which would also help us avoiding max_data_files

However here are some questions I have if we switchover to BIGFILE

- Currently we have RMAN backups running with four channels. If we create one BIGFILE tablespace a dedicate RMAN channel would be used to back this entire file and one channel would be wasted entirely only for this datafile.
- Even this would increase recovery time if we had a failure.

Do you guys think it would be beneficial moving over to a bigfile in these circumstances.
