Best IDE for J2EE development

843833Oct 1 2001 — edited Nov 1 2001
I am trying to find out which Java IDE is best for J2EE development. The application is supposed to be a demo so it wont be anything heavy duty. It will only run on a computer with a single user. At the moment I have tried out both JBuilder and Forte.

They are quite different and I am not sure which is best and how to best descibe their differences. Having used Unix and Windows apps a lot though I feel that the difference between Forte and JBuilder is like the difference between most Unix apps and Windows apps.

Forte has trillions of configuration options just like Unix people like but lacks helper tools/wizards in the areas were it is needed like making EJBs and deploy J2EE application (well maybe it is in the enterprise edition). JBuilder on the other hand seems simpler (simpler more intuinitiv user interface) and easier to use and offers more wizards to make difficult tasks easier.

Does anyone have any comments with regards to Forte vs JBuilder? Strengths and weaknesses.
