Best Backup Strategy for 3 TB Size of DB

kumarskJan 28 2011 — edited Jan 28 2011
Hi,

DB: 10.2.0.4
OS: AIX 6.0 L

We have migrated my database recently from Jbase to ORACLE. This is single node on ASM with 3 TB of database size.We do not have any standby for primary and we cannot setup DR now . Most of my data is in excel format.

My main concern is about database backup.EXP utility is taking lot of time to export DB,obviously because of 3 TB DB size.

We do not know how much space and time it will take for RMAN backup.Even when any crash happens , restore from RMAN will take more time, isn't it?.

Here my question is,

1) How do i can take my production backup , so that when any crash is there i can restore so fast ?. Any recommendation will appreciate.

2) If we take any flash copy of primary at LUN side of OS and restore it in UAT server , how do we can apply the archive logs , generated after LUN backup , to UAT(manual copy of archive logs to UAT) when we had any crash problem in Primary?.

3) If anybody have similar setup , please share the backup strategy for huge DB like 3 TB.

Thanks & Regards,
Sunand
