Bar code scanner connectivity with DB

Hello Gurus,

Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.5.0 - 64bi ( upgrading to 12c soon )

My company deals with manufacturing steel products , Every product has got a sticker with a BARCODE , on scanning it you can learn the details about the material.

We have a new requirement where the information from Barcode ,should be transferred to the DB after being scanned.

What is the most optimum and easiest way to achieve this ?
