Bad magic number in disk label

807559Jun 17 2001 — edited Sep 24 2001
Created 3 CD's of Solaris 8 from downloaded files as instructed to upgrade Ultra10. CDROM was burned on an NT box

Starting installation. Getting ok
From OK prompt
boot cdrom
results in:

Bad magic number in disk label
Can't open disk label package
Can't open boot device

and it boots from disk:a

Additional tests:
dd if=/vol/dev/aliases/cdrom0 bs=2k count=100 of=/dev/null
reads the blocks without errors.

The volume manager is able to identify the filesystem format of the cdrom.
fstyp -v /vol/dev/aliases/cdrom0
prints it all.

What else can be the problem?
Thanks,
Ray
