Backup & Recovery in virtual environment

user10650608Mar 4 2015 — edited Mar 9 2015

Hi,

I need some help in establishing a good Backup & Recovery Strategy for VM-Ware with Oracle Databases.

Currently we use veeam to backup the whole virtual Machine during nightly maintannce-window. On the vm we use RMAN to backup the databases, archivelogs are within the machine.

My Problem:

- if the virtual machine fails during the day, for example 4pm, cause of storage lost or failed snapshot which crashes the machine - I loose the whole changes of the day.

So where is the best place to save archive-logs during the day and how can I recover after a crash mentioned above? First step would be to recover the virtual machine with veeam, but afterwards? The database don't know which archivelogs were written, cause it has the content as of the last night?!

Thanks for your help.

PS we got the snapshot-crash problem on an other machine, so that's really a thing which can happen.
