backup database or archive log as a copy not affecting normal backup chain

GeorgeZhouzhiqingFeb 7 2018 — edited Mar 22 2018

we have normal backup by rman to tape, I want to do a restore test on a new host, but new host cannot be connected to tape. so I like to run a full backup plus archive log to a mounted disk instead of tape, will it break the backup chain? (reset the base to new full backup).

alternatively, if the tape can be connected to new host, as a test purpose, what is the standard process to restore from tape(not affecting the original production server backup) to a different db name on new host (like export oracle_sid=newdbname, rman target / set dbid productdb....)
