Backed Whole Database, Cant recover.

519995Sep 12 2006 — edited Sep 13 2006
Hi,

Got a problem recovering my database. Let me explain

I needed to reinstall windows XP so I backedup the whole of my 10gr2 database using OEM backup option.

This created two backfiles named something like U01BCK_1_1 and U02BCK_1_2
(note these are not exact names have not got access to that machine at the moment).

I then saved these files and re-installed XP and oracle using same sid but on
a different disk( D: the home directory was on disk C: before). Note also the
backup files were saved to a network disk.

Using OEM Recovey Option tried recovery. This option first recovers the control file
this was eventually recovered from the recopied file U02BCK_1_2 which I
copied to D:\backup from another PC (This directory D:\backupis a different directory to the one the these files were created by the backup when the back up was done).

Once the control file has been recovered OEM asked the user to recover the whole database for consistency. I go through the options of providing a host username and password, then to a page where there is an option to create the dbf files to a new location (which I ignore) and then to schedule the recovery page.

There is a option to edit the RMAN script here - which I ignore.

This recovery fails - the details of the RMAN log specifies it can't find the files.

The backup files I am tryning to recover from are D:\backup\ U01BCK_1_1 and D:\backup\ U01BCK_1_1\U02BCK_1_2. The default values seem to be looking
elsewhere.

All I am trying to do is recover the whole database from two back up files.

The question is can specify which backfiles to recover from? There is nothing in
the catalog as this is a newly created database and the backup was done before
a reinstall of the database.

Can I override the default behaviour here in OEM and specify the backfiles to recover from (maybe be editing thr RMAN script)?

Please Help
Roger
