B-link trees?

It seems the idea for B-link trees has been around for a long time. Any thoughts on adapting them in Berkeley DB? They seem to have some pretty desirable properties (simple, deadlock-free locking) along with some yet unsolved issues (deletions, garbage collection, etc...)
