Automate Oracle Item Substitution
xfitguruApr 26 2013 — edited Apr 30 2013Greetings Everyone. I am in need for help/guidance/direction pertaining to the Oracle database that I am using. The current version I am using is Oracle Applications : 11.5.10.2. The issue I have is with identical items within the database that are being ordered separately AND with difference costs. I would understand if this was some sort of deliberate strategy but it has been done through ignorance for years. Well, now I am the whistleblower for an issue that can hopefully streamline some processes and save some $$$.
I have researched Oracle functionality when it comes to Order Management and found that if 'ITEM RELATIONSHIPS' have set up and the two items are defined as 'SUBSTITUTE' items, they should, in theory, be interchangeable. I can see the option for 'RELATED ITEMS' when I look at the item within the order. My question comes from the scenario defined below:
Items A and B have had their ITEM RELATIONSHIP defined as 'SUBSTITUTE'. Item B is placed on a sales order. If there is insufficient on-hand/available inventory for Item B to satisfy the demand but there is enough for Item A , does Oracle have the functionality to automatically allocate the on-hand/available inventory from Item A?
I have provided a couple links that address this below. Thanks for the help anyone!
