auto generate a sequence number

Hi,

I have a number field (let's call it tracking ID) that I want to use it to auto populate from a sequence and I want my sequence to start from a non-zero reference point (let's say it should start from 1000 onward)...

can you please advise how to generate and link this sequence to my tracking ID...
