ASM Normal (or High) vs External redundancy in AWS

User_BC8PZJan 15 2018 — edited Jan 15 2018

Do you use ASM with Normal (or High) redundancy in AWS, or do you use External Redundancy and rely on the resilience of AWS Elastic Block Storage (EBS)?

What have your experiences been?

Oracle won't recommend whether or not to use normal or external redundancy in ASM on AWS because they don't have enough detail about Amazon EBS storage works.

Equally, AWS documentation doesn't make a specific recommendation about redundancy on EBS storage for databases.

I've asked both account managers for guidance, but neither will make a clear statement.
