ASM and RAID

Fabricio_JorgeMay 28 2013 — edited May 28 2013
Hi all,

As I am a little "weak" regarding storage concepts, reading an Oracle RAC book that was talking about some storage concepts, I asked myself:

1) In 10g - 11g, with the introduction of the ASM tecnology, is it really necessary for my storage to have some RAID configuration, even if I'm using ASM, that already introduces the concept of redundancy?

2) If i decide myself to use a RAID configuration with ASM, doesn't this approach make the performance degrade a little bit?

3) If i use a RAID configuration with the fastest disks that money can buy, it would be a good practice to use ASM? If yes, why?

Thanks in advance.
