ASCII('0')

Hi,

I have a data in the database that does not show any characters i.e. appears like NULL, while when i serach using not null., the records still displays. I have verified that it does not have any space/tab charater. On viewing the ascii value, it is displayeed as 0(Zero). Can you pls. let me know what ASCII('0') stand for.
