Are Statistics automatically gathered when we do DML in Oracle 11g and higher?

Hi All,

My questions are n't specific to my database version. what are the differences between a direct path insert and a conventional insert as far as statistics are concerned?

Do we need to gather statistics after doing any DML? Say if I do a conventional insert will oracle 11g or higher gather the table stats automatically?
