Archivelog destination Full and moving them to new location for backup

kumarskNov 27 2011 — edited Nov 27 2011
Hi,

DB : 9.2.0.7
OS : AIX 5.3

When archivelog destination fills , I have changed log destination and tried to take the backup of archivelogs to TAPE after moving all the logs to new set location.But, the archivelogs were not backing up from the newly moved location and simply skiping.

The steps i followed were here and please suggest me , If i were wrong in doing.

1)
I set the new location as ,

SQL>alter system set log_archive_dest='LOCATION=/application/oracle/archive_New';

2)
I moved all the archivelogs to new location(/application/oracle/archive) with UNIX command " mv " .

3)
After this , i connected to RMAN to make them all validate,

Rman>CHANGE ARCHIVELOG ALL VALIDATE;

4)
I run the backup of archivelog all with delete input

RMAN>backup archivelog all delete input; # Actually this backup is going to tape

5)
After archivelogs backup to TAPE, i reset the archivelog destination to original one

SQL>alter system set log_archive_dest='LOCATION=/u02/oracle/archive_original';

6)
Move back logs to original using UNIX " mv " command, if any newly generated archivelogs there
Did the validate of logs,
Rman>CHANGE ARCHIVELOG ALL VALIDATE;

7)
Run the archivelog backup to TAPE,
RMAN>backup archivelog all delete input; # Actually this backup is going to tape

In my case, running the RMAN backup script will do by backup(Storage) team and they are not part of DBA(DBA do not have permision to run the script).So, i will call them to run the script after doing the steps 1,2,3 and 5,6.

Please suggest me that the process i specified is correct ?

Thanks & Regars,
