archive log space and log frequency..

khallas301Nov 27 2013 — edited Dec 3 2013

friends..

Oracle: 11.2.0.3

OS: Linux

I'm trying to find whether I have enough space at archive destination to keep atleast 2 days of logs without running rman archive log backup.

Currently RMAN runs archivelog backup if archivelog destination reaches to 90%.

I'm thinking of below options..

1. Find avg daily size of last 1 week of archive log and multiply that by 2,

whatever size we get need to have that much space at archive dest.

2. Is there a way to find log archive frequency for a database?

Do I just need to find total number of log switches in a day and divide by 24?

3. Is there a way to find how many time rman ran archive log backup in a day?

(I don't think it's possible but as again it's ORACLE everything is possible from control file)

Main motive is to keep 2 days of archivelog on primary and so that if standby is down for 2 days I don't need to restore archivelogs from backup.

Thanks,

Mike
