archive log query

Hi,

In our production database the archive location is specified as /u01/archive/db_name/arch

But the arch directory is missing and archive logs are getting generated to the directory /u01/archive/db_name with the name "arch" appended. ie like below.

arch1_93264_752096379.arc

My question is. Is this normal behaviour of oracle? Which parameter controls this?

DB version:11.2.0.2
OS:AIX
