Archive log can be enable at external hard drive?

Hi experts,

plz suggest can i enable archive log for my prod instance on the external hard disk.

acutely my prod database is running with low disk space. and i want to enable archive log to take hot backup and also for recover database if it required. currently we are taking daily clod backup at night on external hard disk as tar file.

I don't know is it safe or not to enable archive log on external hard disk for prod instance.

server IBM

file system is RAID 5.

OS- linux rhel 5.2(64 bit)

EBS- R12.1.1

database- 11.1.0.7

disk space left on prod server- 63gb (daily archive log generation size on prod approx 24gb )

we have much disk space on external disk space approx 200 gb.
