SQL & PL/SQL

Hi all:

Let me say up front that I don't have good dataset example to post, this is just a question where I'm hoping to get some direction to troubleshoot my own query.

I have a multitable insert into two tables. When I use the append hint, the explain plan does indicate that the hint is being respected. But, if I change the statement and perform an insert into only one table, then I see "DIRECT LOAD INTO" in the plan.

I am stumped as to how to begin troubleshooting. Does anybody have any insights as to how you might attack a problem like this?
