APEX Sample App - can't login

I have loaded the APEX Sample Application in my workspace, but the default login does not work. It says to use either demo or admin as the ID and the lowercase name of the workspace for the password. I try the workspace, but it does not work. When I look at the data in the table, the password is encrypted and it is different for each user. Seems odd to me (unless it is using the user name in the hash). Any ideas out there?
