APEX PDF Printing prints #### for unicode characters

I have followed the instructions of [this page|[http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/application-express/configure-printing-093060.html#2.1] to install and configure Apache FOP for PDF printing.
However when printing interactive reports, unicode (Greek) characters are print with a #.
I have experimented with print attributes of the report trying to test the effect of chanγing font. Only available fonts are Helvetica, Courier and Times and the effect is the same for any of this font.
I have tried to manually install these fonts in the jre/lib/fonts path of my JDK, but nothing changes.

Has anybody else encountered this problem?
