Apex passing URL parameters to page items

Hi,
I am calling Apex application externally passing parameters in the URL as below. There are 2 page items in page 1.
f?p=101:1::::::P1_PARAM1,P1_PARAM2:A,B
When i hit the URL , the page items are rendered as blank. I would expect them to be populated with A and B respectively. Am i missing something?
