apex_item with currency

Hi!
I have a problem with a collection: I have a display_and_save apex_item and I'd like it to be displayed with the currency symbol.

I have created a collection based on a query, the database column I'm interested in is of type number(14,5), in the report the column is select as: apex_item.display_and_save(43,c041,10) pre
in the report attributed this column is displayed as "Standard Report Column".
I've choosen in the Number/Date Format the format I want but it is not working.

Could you suggest me anything?
I'm using Application Express 4.0.2.00.07
