APEX Instance keeps stopping every 5 minutes

Hello Everyone!

I’m having a very annoying problem with my APEX Instance Application (Free tier) and I couldn’t find any help anywhere.

I started my account using the APEX on Oracle Cloud and I have been using it with no big issues for 30 days until I received an e-mail communicating that the free trial period was over and that my account was downgraded to the free tier. So far so good because the APEX Workspace and development tools are free forever and that is what I need but my APEX Instance keeps on stopping its execution automatically every 5 minutes.

I’m not sure if the 30 days expiration has anything to do with it or it’s just a huge coincidence. Anyway… deep diving in the problem:

  • I tried to log-in to the APEX development workspace and the web browser just gave a HTTP Status Code Error 503.
  • Next, I tried to log-in to my APEX app directly and I received the same error on the Web Browser: 503
  • I logged-in to the Oracle Cloud Administration Panel, then clicked in “Developer Services” and then clicked on “APEX Instances”. I saw that my APEX Instance state was “Stopped”. And I don’t know why it was like that.
  • I started the instance and the database associated with it manually and everything started to work fine (app and APEX developer center).
  • Around 5 minutes after the start of the instance, both websites (app and PEX Developer Center) were down again. When I checked the instance status it was “Stopped” again.
  • I restarted everything manually once more. Everything was fine… 5 minutes later everything is down again, and the instance is once again “Stopped”.

It’s impossible to use the APEX like this. I’ve already seen cases where the instance is stopped automatically after 7 days without any use, but every 5 minutes is something new to me.

I also couldn’t find any configuration about instance time-out or inactivity.

Please, does anyone know how to solve this problem or could, at list give any clue where to find an answer? I was so excited about using APEX but now I’m losing the confidence that it can be used as a stable and trustworthy tool.

Thanks in advance!
