Apex Hosting and compression

Matthew MorrisMay 5 2014 — edited Jun 23 2014

I've been hosting my Apex application using MaxApex for a little over a year.  In order to try to improve the site speed and provide some SEO tweaking I've been trying to improve the Google Page Speed and Yslow scores for the site for the past couple of days.  The largest remaining element causing my score to be low revolves around GZIP compression.  After being unable to get it to work on my own, I opened a ticket with MaxApex.  The support rep indicated that they do not have the mod_gzip or mod_deflate modules enabled on their Apache server and will not do so.  The rep suggested that I go with their dedicated hosting where I could change anything I liked (and pay through the nose for the privilege).

Does anyone here who has used one of the other hosting services know if they have compression enabled on their Apache install?  This is a fairly common capability these days and I'm surprised both that MaxApex doesn't have it enabled and refuses to even consider doing so.
