Apex hangs up randomly

We're on 4.0 and at least once a day I will click on something while developing such as a table name in sql workshop or a link on a development page within the ap and it hangs up. I wait, finally go to Task Manager and stop it, get all the way out of IE, then re-login. Any ideas why it does this?

How can I find the logs that would show me these actions?
