Apex Flash charts not up to the job?

Andrew RNov 23 2010 — edited Nov 24 2010
Hi,

Unfortunately, this is my customer's perception at the moment when attempting to plot more than a handful of points on a simple line chart. They have a requirement to plot one month's worth of fifteen minute data on a graph, ie 2880 points. Their current desktop application renders a chart within a couple seconds, therefore they're expecting similar performance from the replacement application which is hopefully going to be developed using Apex. However the Apex/AnyChart solution doesn't appear to perform well with large data sets.

I've set a test page here:

http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=37504:4

The page contains a graph that plots 3000 points and takes about 10-12 seconds to render. The delay appears to be with the apex_util.flash procedure that generates the XML for the chart. Is this typical of Apex/AnyChart performance with these volumes of data?

If you want to look at the application my workspace details are:

Workspace: charts
Username: charts
Password: pwd
Application: chart

Thanks,

Andrew.
