Apex 5.1 and Jasper Report Integration with iReport 5.6.0

Neruda from ItalyOct 23 2017 — edited Dec 8 2017

Hello. As the subject says I am trying to find a (no-cost) good solution to create beautiful reports to use in Oracle APEX. I have been using BI Publisher trial edition for a while and I don't know if this tools will expire someday in the future. Surfing the web I have found iReport and this article http://www.opal-consulting.de/apex/f?p=20090928:4:0::NO::: describes how to use "Jasper Reports Integration" connected to Apex. I am even using Apache Tomcat 7.0.82.

Following the article step by step (section "installation") I am stuck at the point nr 7, "Configure the JNDI datasources". After having succesfully installed Apache Tomcat and deployed JasperReportIntegration.war in it I want to edit the file JasperReportsIntegration.xml that I should find (as the article says) in the path Tomcat directory\conf\Catalina\localhost but it is nowhere. Why this happens? Anybody have already faced this problem?

Also...which is the difference between iReport and Jaspersoft Studio? Is it possible to use reports created by this new tool and then recalled by Apex?

Thank you for your support

PS: the application in Apex should be used by users who are spread on the whole country, thus non locally
