Apex 4.0 Page Layout - Region is not wide enough, data wrapping in columns

Paulh_Oct 26 2012 — edited Oct 29 2012
Hi

I have ported an APEX application from one workspace to another by export/import of a Database Applications file.
The two applications point to different instances of an Oracle 11g database.

Most of the 30 pages in the new application display in Firefox acceptably well,
however I have one page with a multi-row report which no longer wants to use the full width of the screen.

Some fields wrap over 3 or 4 short lines instead of using just 2 longer fields.
This means that all the data is displayed, but each row of data uses too many lines of screen.

I am unsure if the fields are wrapping because the region is too narrow, or is the region narrow because the field are wrapping.
As an untrained Apex newbie, I am struggling to find what I need to change.

The "Organisation" region is defined as follows (in both apps)
Template : Reports Region 100% Width
Parent Region : unselected
Display Point : Page Template Body (3. items above region content)
Sequence : 20
Column :1

The columns are defined as STRING types in Standard Report Columns.

Possibly this diagram will make the situation clearer.
My old application displays 2 rows in this fashion:
aaa aaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaa
        aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

bbb bbb bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb bbbb
        bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
My new app shows the same 2 rows but much more tightly wrapped:
aaa aaa aaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaa aaa
        aaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaa
        aaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaa
        aaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaa

bbb bbb bbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbb bbb
        bbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbb
        bbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbb
        bbbbbbbbbb bbbbbbbbbb
Can you suggest where I should be looking to change this behaviour?

Thanks.
