APEX 23.2 Question

I have a text field that is being used as a search field to call a apex process that returns data to a display only field. That is working fine. The the problem is that the user can either click the enter or tab key on the keyboard to kick off the process.
1. How do I refresh the page and/or page items regardless of which is clicked? I have hidden fields that rely on that in order to populate or update.
