APEX 19.2 - Separate Sessions, different tabs, same browser

User_ETDRWApr 6 2021

Hi,
Having trawled the internet (again) I am struggling with the issue of when I log in as the same user or even a different user in another browser window / or same browser tab - the original window/tab gets "your session has expired".
Lots of talk about this years back - which seem to culminate in a post by Joel Kallman
https: // joelkallman.blogspot.com/2016/07/ apex-session-isolation-across-multiple.html
i.e. using APEX_SESSION_CLONE - the blog post was last updated 4 years ago (2017)
Is this still the best we can get with regards to users having multiple, separate sessions?

  1. I don't want all the existing session state copied - I want a brand new session!
  2. this realistically has to be initiated from the app itself (e.g. a "Clone Session" button) - i.e. the users cannot just open up another tab, put in the application URL, log in and away they go ... (which is what I am sure they would be expecting to be able to do)
    Thanks
