Alter System ..... SID='*' Clarifications

For Instance we have

alter system set DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE = 10M SID='*'

What is the meaning of SID='*' although we have a different pfile and spfile for all instances.
Will it update the DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE = 10M for all the instances that commes under same Oracle Home?
