ALTER PLUGGABLE DATABASE xxx DISCARD STATE;

I got an interersting situation. Pluggable database is in auto start state. Now it got corrupt. As a result starting CDB fails. If I do STARTUP MOUNT and then issue ALTER PLUGGABLE DATABASE xxx DISCARD STATE; I get ORA-01109: database not open. Sounds like catch 22.
