Allocating more RAM to Oracle

513219Oct 29 2007 — edited Nov 1 2007
Hi

I have a CENTOS 4.4 LINUX Server with 16 GB RAM.

I want to allocate 15 GB to Oracle and balance to the LINUX OS.

a) Is it possible or I will need to leave more RAM for OS Level processes?

b) How to do it? - During Installation if I increase the shmmax parameter to 15 GB - the process aborts saying OUT OF MEMORY - there is no space left on devide. It only lets me increase this space to about 6 GB.

I want a higher RAM allocation to Oracle as I have some Large Indexs and Tables that are read only and frequently used - I want to load them in Memory.

Regards
Madhup
