AJAX and German "Umlaute"

Hi,

I want to fill a select list depend on the value on another list without refresh the page (AJAX). It works fine as long as not to show special characters like 'ö','ä','ß'.

What could be the reason?

In other elements the special characters are correct displayed.

Any ideas welcome.
