Adding new disks to Solaris 10 VirtualBox VM

tmooredbaFeb 1 2016 — edited Feb 1 2016

Hi everyone,

I have an issue with a test Solaris 10 VM I've built for some patching work I am going to be doing. I have my VM with a single disk in it, and I now want to add a secondary disk (as the server is using UFS) so I can create a secondary boot environment and patch it. This is a simulation of a real-world scenario, so switching to ZFS is not an option.

Anyway, I've added the disk just fine via VirtualBox, but when I tried formatting the disk I get this:

Searching for disks...

Inquiry failed for this logical diskdone

Then it shows only the first disk as a selectable drive. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? It's possible this is a VirtualBox issue, but I want to rule out an OS issue first. For information, I am using VirtualBox 5.0.14 r105127, Solaris 10 1/13. The disk I added is a VDI disk added to an IDE controller (basically, identical to the initial disk I used to install the OS onto).

Regards,

Tom
