adding datafile to standby db

Hi

I have a standby database which is not a dataguard standby database.
I use log shipipping.

When I add a datafile to production, I also need to add a datafile to standby database manually.
Is there a way to automate it?

If I were using dataguard standby, I could use "standby_file_management=auto".
so that same datafile willl be created automatically in the standby database.

This doesnt work in my scenerio. Can I do anything else?
