Adding a new attribute in an existing objectclass 'inetorgperson'

Note: I am not creating a new object class and adding attributes to it.
I need to add a new non-exisitng attribute to the obnjectclass inetorgperson tot he SUN backend and access it through my Java Programme i.e. add more entries to the SUN including the new attribute. I have modified the '00core.ldif' file , added a new definition tot he attribute and included this new attribute to the exisitng attributes of the inetorgperson object class. I restarted the SUN many times, but it doesn't seem to work.
Can anyone help me by giving me a detail steps for this, or point out any suggestions. I need this soon so any help from anyone will be highly appreciated.
